Additional Handbook of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Therapists Information

These days, prescription drugs are often considered a first course of treatment for psychological disorders. Like any other modern pharmaceuticals, psychopharmacological drugs are complex, powerful, and highly interactive with other chemical and natural medications. Mental health and medical professionals absolutely must have a thorough knowledge of how these medicines are used and how they work in the human body. People who take these drugs or love others who do will benefit greatly from having a thorough understanding of the application and function of psychologically effective prescription drugs. This book has proven its indispensability through three editions and remains, in this fourth major update, the single most respected and widely used book on the subject available.

Everyone who needs the most accurate and comprehensive information about psychopharmacological medicines must have this book on his or her shelf. It covers every significant medical aspect of the use of these drugs, including indications based on diagnosis, physiological functions, side effects, and criteria for evaluating client response and recommending further treatment or reevaluation. This revised and expanded edition includes a new chapter devoted to children and psychopharmaceuticals. Sections on bipolar disorder, major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder have been revised to include major developments in current research. Six new drugs have been fully reviewed and added to the book's charts and tables.

What Customers Say About Handbook of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Therapists:

This book breaks it down into simplistic terms, and as long as you are semi familiar with biology you should have no problem understanding how the medications work. I would also recommend getting Preston's book "Clinical Psychopharmacology made ridiculously simple" as a supplement to this book. I got this for my Psychopharmacology class and I expected it to to be so intimidating and complicated but its not. I love that it has sample vignettes to help you understand better. It breaks it down even more and groups the disorders with the specific drugs. Its a good review book.

A very biologically oriented text. The realm of psychology and biology is fraught with unanswered questions and exceptions to the rule which causes some confusion and a need for further research. It is very detail oriented and not clear in some areas as to the explanations of some of the neurological functions.A more cohesive work on the biology of psychological disorders and the outcomes of each drug with each disorder could be explained better for non medical students which many in the psychology field include. It leaves one with the question of whether or not the science can specifically identify the problems, exactly which treatment to use and the outcomes due to so many influencing variables involved.Even as a reference book for specific drugs for specific problems I would rather have a more concise description and less cellular biological details.

This book was described as having a dent in the cover. The hardback cover actually came with a tear in it. It's disappointing that this was not accurately described and I would not have purchased this book had I known.

I recieved it in two days. The book is in perfect condition. Thank you very much. :)

A very detailed examination of the mind and the brain. Useful insights into pharmacotherapy and pharmacokinetics. Very thorough discussion of the implications for therapy.
